Sun Valley: America’s oldest ski resort opened in 1936, w/3,400 vertical ft and 2,054 acres to ski. The first ski lift was adapted from a system for moving stems of bananas in Panama….and that is a true story! The resort is a chic complex of low rise buildings clustered round the Historic Lodge, the original hotel – updated two years ago..
The Mountain: head of Tarentaise Valley in southeastern France just 5KM from Italy. Stats: Vertical of 6,888ft, 100 lifts, direct link to Tignes, and unlimited off piste skiing. As this place is compared to Courchevel, it is stated this is were the serious skiers go. Val D’Isere has 8 points of access helping to eliminate the mourning rush, this does not include Tignes access.
